Type 2 diabetes mellitus

About 6% of people in the world have diabetes. According to the WHO forecast, the number of such patients will reach 333 million by 2025. Therefore, diabetes is considered an epidemic of the 21st century and it is worth knowing what factors cause the formation of an exchange disorder and what are its symptoms!

The conditions associated with the achievements of civilization, such as obesity, lack of physical training, and chronic stress, contribute to the formation of diabetes, especially the second type, non—insulin—dependent diabetes. This is a disease in which there is a violation of carbohydrate metabolism, as a result of which there is too high a concentration of sugar in the blood.

The factors of diabetes formation include:
• Age (although diabetes has also been reported in children in recent years);
• obesity;
• familial (genetic) diabetes;
• gestational diabetes (during pregnancy);
• glucose metabolism disorders;
• Pre-diabetes status;
• lack of physical training;
• wrong food;
• concomitant diseases.
Non-insulin-dependent diabetes accounts for about 90-95% of all diagnosed cases of diabetes.

The formation of diabetes can be accompanied by the symptoms listed below, sometimes a person does not observe any obvious manifestations of the disease for a long time. This is especially true for non-insulin-dependent diabetes, which is characterized, as a rule, by a long period of latency.

The most common symptoms are:

• bouts of severe hunger;
• sudden visual impairment;
• tingling or numbness of the hands/feet;
• rapid fatigue;
• dry skin and mucous membranes;
• Weak and slow wound healing;
• Infections occur more frequently than usual;
• Diabetes may be accompanied by nausea or abdominal pain.

As diabetes develops, uncharacteristic symptoms often occur.:

• Recurrent burdensome fungal infections;
• Skin infections;
• difficult-to-heal boils and ulcers;
• difficulty concentrating;
• menstrual disorders;
In children and adolescents, diabetes leads to impaired growth.

If you find yourself with at least a few of the above symptoms, you should not postpone an appointment with a doctor.
